If you’re traveling Turkey on a budget, taking the bus from Istanbul to Cappadocia is the most affordable way to get there.

We’ve included this last because it’s the least practical option, but it can be worthwhile if you enjoy the journey itself.
There is no direct train to Cappadocia, but you can take the high-speed train (called YHT in Turkey) from Istanbul to Ankara, which takes about 4.5 hours. From there, you’ll need to transfer to a bus bound for Göreme, which adds another 3.5 to 4 hours of travel.
The total journey usually takes around 9 hours (not counting connection times) — but if you’re a slow traveler who enjoys watching the Turkish countryside roll by, it can actually be quite a fun experience.
